Due to lower prices of plastic bottles, beer and cider packaged in 2–2.5 litre plastic bottles are less expensive than beer and cider packaged in smaller glass bottles or cans. As alcoholic beverages packaged in large plastic containers are less expensive, strong beer is mostly purchased by persons that abuse alcohol, especially in rural areas, while cider is purchased by young people.
The draft law lays down a ban on sales of such alcoholic beverages that belong to the category of beer, brewed beverages, intermediate products and other alcoholic beverages with an alcoholic strength by volume that exceeds 5.8 %, if they are packaged in containers exceeding 0.5 litres, as well as alcoholic beverages of the said categories with an alcoholic strength by volume that does not exceed 5.8 %, if they are packaged in containers exceeding 1 litre.
