According to an expert report published in 2014 by the French National Agency for Food Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES), 20% of children over 9 years old and 30% of adults are allergic to pollen in France. One of the recommendations made by ANSES to reduce the planting of plants with allergenic pollen plants is to provide information to the general public and communities prior to the purchase of certain ornamental plants with highly allergenic pollen and to encourage the diversification of plants introduced.
