Explanation

On 4 October 2016, the European Parliament voted for the EU to ratify the UN Paris Agreement on climate change, following approval by the Council of Ministers on 30 September. EU ratification paved the way for the first universal, legally binding global climate change deal to come into force on 4 November 2016.

Summary

With the amendment to the Vienna Building Code [Bauordnung für Wien] at the end of 2018 (State Law Gazette No 69/2018) the energy spatial plans were introduced as a tool enabling a targeted, sustainable control of the use of energy sources to supply space heating and hot water in new buildings.

Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Vienna establishing a spatial energy plan for the 16th district


§ 3. Only the highly efficient alternative systems specified in § 118(3) BO are permitted for heating and water heating systems in new buildings pursuant to § 60(1)(a) BO in the areas covered by the spatial energy plan.

§ 4. This Ordinance was notified in accordance with the provisions of Directive (EU) 2015/1535 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 September 2015 laying down a procedure for the provision of information in the field of technical regulations and of rules on Information Society services, OJ L 241, 17.9.2015 (Notification No 2020/xx/A).
§ 4. This Ordinance was notified in accordance with the provisions of Directive (EU) 2015/1535 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 September 2015 laying down a procedure for the provision of information in the field of technical regulations and of rules on Information Society services, OJ L 241, 17.9.2015 (Notification No 2020/19/A).

§ 5. This Ordinance enters into effect three months after its promulgation.
