Explanation

The aim of the standard is to adapt the current national legislation to scientific changes, new consumption trends and habits and the current commercial climate, as well as to the existing European Union legislation on food information to consumers and common marketing standards for specific products (as with some of the more sought-after fish species among end consumers such as tuna, bonito, sardines and sardine-type products).

Summary

The content of the Royal Decree first reflects its subject-matter, followed by the definitions contained in the European and national regulations on fisheries, and the definitions set out in Articles 3 and 4 of Royal Decree 1521/1984 of 1 August approving the Technical-Health Regulations for Establishments and Products of Fisheries and Aquaculture with Destination for Human Consumption are applicable.
