Large-scale fires in livestock facilities, in particular for the keeping of pigs, have prompted improvements to fire protection in livestock facilities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The requirements for fire protection in livestock facilities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are at the discretion of the building supervisory authorities. To date, there are no specific building regulations for livestock facilities in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In order to improve and standardise fire protection in livestock facilities across the country, the draft Guidelines lay down requirements for achieving this objective. The notified provision contains regulations for fire safety in livestock facilities that are part of farms, and thus serves to prevent the outbreak and spread of fire and to enable the rescue of animals and the implementation of effective extinguishing work. The notified provision also contains a regulation on the inspection of technical systems by recognised inspection experts.
The Guidelines lay down rules on fire safety in livestock facilities that are part of farms. They set out detailed rules on the supply of extinguishing water, access and driveways on the sites, requirements for the fire zones, components and rescue routes of livestock facilities, technical building equipment, lightning protection systems and fire detection systems for livestock facilities, fire extinguishers as well as fire protection regulations, fire-fighting plans and obligations for operators of livestock facilities.
